The Local Police of Poio (Pontevedra) seized a total of 135 kilos of clams, illegally captured by poachers, while they were distributed among family members.

As reported by the body in a statement, the apprehension took place on Thursday and the agents were aware that an organized group was dedicated “to illegally and continuously depleting the sea.”

“This is a tiny part of those who extract weekly,” the agents have pointed out. Thus, this case is related to a boat that intervened without occupants in the municipality of Pontevedra a few months ago.

The operation was carried out in front of the home of the defendants, where they distributed the vivalbo among their relatives, introducing it from one floor to another and to a rented van that was at the door.

Thus, they proceeded to seize the merchandise from the five members of the same family, who, according to the police report, attacked the agents, tried to intimidate and even one of them “raised a large stick” and “threatened them with death.” , for which they requested the support of the Civil Guard.

However, they seized the shellfish in seven sacks and proceeded to identify five men who already had prior records for similar events.

Subsequently, the shellfish was weighed and returned to the sea with the collaboration of the Poio fish guards. The poachers are accused of an alleged crime against flora and fauna, an alleged crime of attacking agents of the authority and an alleged crime of serious threats, reporting them in the duty court.

The Police suspect that the clams were not extracted in the Poio area and may come from the O Morrazo area, Praceres, in Pontevedra, or the Ribeira area, in A Coruña.
