Production on the second season of Gen V was underway. The cast was due to meet on Saturday in Toronto to finalize the details of filming, which was scheduled to begin on April 8. However, the death of actor Chance Perdomo, one of the protagonists, last Friday night in a motorcycle accident has affected the team and has also forced the start of filming to be delayed indefinitely.
This break in the series produced by Sony for Prime Video has to do with the need to leave space for Perdomo’s colleagues to process his death but also with the creative plans for the season. Michele Fazekas, showrunner of Gen V, has to work with the rest of the series’ writers to plan the next episodes again and see how they can do without Andre Anderson, Perdomo’s character.
And, in the shoes of Anderson, one of the students at Godolkin University for young people with superpowers, the actor was a key piece of the plots. He was one of the first friends of Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), a new student who hoped to redirect her traumatic powers (manipulating blood).
Marie soon discovered that popular people like Andre weren’t exactly good people when he accidentally nearly killed a young girl with his gift of magnetic manipulation, who she had to save. But, after the university’s most iconic student, Luke (Patrick Schwarzenegger), died, Marie and Andre had to join forces to understand what was happening at the institution controlled by Vought International.
“Our hearts go out to Chance’s loved ones as we mourn this shocking loss. We will remember the special moments we spent together, his contagious smile that could light up any room, his warm hugs and the authenticity he always carried with him. Rest in peace, dear friend, we will miss you very much,” the cast with Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, Shelley Conn, London Thor and Derek Luh dedicated to him in a joint statement.
It is now unknown how Gen V will approach this loss. Will all the plots be rewritten so that Andre Anderson has no bearing on the season? Or will they have to make another tough decision, that of hiring an actor to replace Perdomo so they can continue with the second season as they had planned?
Gen V was a pleasant surprise for Prime Video: the first season premiered in September 2023 to good reviews, which highlighted its ability to complement the universe of The Boys without exhausting the formula, with a more youthful approach. In the United States, it also entered the list of the most viewed streaming series during its broadcast.
