In Spain there are about 15 million pets -among which 9.3 million dogs stand out-, according to figures provided by the National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers. Many families regularly travel with their pets. To do so, it is important to transport them in the vehicle appropriately not only for their safety and that of the rest of the occupants but also to avoid being penalized.
In this article, however, we are going to address another aspect related to transporting pets in the car, such as cleaning the upholstery. To do this, we are going to focus specifically on the remains of hair that dogs leave on the seats, proposing various dry solutions to eliminate them.
Although it is advisable to use soap and water for a more thorough cleaning, we do not always have the necessary resources or enough time to carry out this option. Therefore, the dry solutions we present in this article will be useful for quick and effective cleaning in situations where water cleaning is not feasible.
The most effective solution to remove hair from car upholstery is to use a vacuum cleaner. For best results, it is advisable to use a brush attachment or handheld nozzle with soft bristles, designed specifically for cleaning delicate surfaces such as upholstery. When vacuuming, it is important to do so with firm movements and in different directions to ensure that the entire affected area is covered.
To sweep and collect lint remains from the seats, it is recommended to use a soft bristle brush. When passing the brush over the affected surface, the bristles capture and remove hair, leaving the upholstery free of residue. We must brush in different directions and make firm but gentle movements to obtain better results.
The electrostatic energy generated on the surface of a balloon will allow us to collect the remains of hair from the car upholstery with this object. Previously we must rub the balloon against our hair or a garment to charge it electrically. Once we have achieved this, we are going to pass the balloon through the upholstery. We will immediately see how the object attracts the remains of hair and they remain adhered to its surface.
It is another effective solution to collect lint from car seats. When rubbing the rough area against the affected surface, the hairs get caught in the Velcro allowing them to be easily trapped. It is important to run the Velcro in different directions to cover the entire area and make sure you collect as many hairs as possible.
The glue deposited on one of the sides of this material will allow us to collect the remains of hair as we pass it over the affected surface. It is a slow method, like Velcro, but extremely effective since it manages to trap debris that sometimes the vacuum cleaner is not able to suck.
Another quick and effective option is to use an adhesive roller that we can find for sale for a modest price. This gadget consists of a sticky surface that traps pet hair with a single pass, so it is very practical to use on the affected area.
In addition to using pumice stone to clean and polish kitchen utensils or tiles, this material is also effective in removing lint from car seats. Its rough texture helps remove lint and other unwanted materials, leaving the upholstery cleaner and free of residue. It is important to use gentle movements and avoid applying too much pressure to avoid damage to the upholstery.
