The New York fashion week is on its way from the equator after Friday paraded, among other names, the proposals of designers such as Christian Siriano and Ralph Lauren, or on Saturday the new collections of creators such as Proenza Schouler and the Spaniards Palomo Spain and Custo Barcelona. For the Catalan designer, New York is a second home and its international runway a space to exploit creativity. Despite the 51 fashion shows he has done there, the designer bluntly assures that it is thanks to the catwalk that he can continue to learn. “The physical gateway has always been my school. It may be that for the current generations it is other scenarios, such as that of social networks, but I as a firm have evolved in the physical gateway, not only for its projection capacity, but also as laboratory of my creative work”, explained the designer a few hours before presenting his Spring/Summer 2024 Objects of Desire collection in New York.

It is a love story with the city that has seen him grow as a fashion designer and that, shortly after he took his first steps in the industry, before he conquered the wardrobes of half the world with his colorful T-shirts retro aesthetic, he opted for the avant-garde style of his designs and catapulted him to the international scale. “New York has helped us a lot, and that’s why this is a very special date of the year, very emotional and at the same time makes us respect”, says the 64-year-old creative.

In this edition of the New York catwalk, Custo has investigated the feeling of desire in the fashion industry. Thus, his line for next summer is entitled Objects of Desire and focuses all attention on caftans. “We wanted to design pieces that achieve this effect of seduction and emphasize the individuality of each person”, he explains about the 50 pieces that are part of the collection that he presented yesterday in a lighted studio located in a few meters from the Hudson River, and which will soon arrive at the Madrid footbridge with some new features.

Beyond the great novelty of caftans, in which the creative has wanted to investigate in depth their possibilities in terms of cuts and shades, Custo recognizes that the dress is the great seal of identity of the firm and therefore has a primary role in this line, as in all. Fitted, long, short, oversize. A range of possibilities for optimistic and daring women who want to differentiate themselves through clothing.

In shades and textures, as usual in the vibrant collections of Custo Barcelona, ??the collection opts for a warm palette, with orange, fuchsia, pink and yellow colors, but also for turquoise as a counterpoint and white as union tone Colors that bring shine, such as gold and silver, are also inherent features of the Custo Barcelona universe.

After the explosion of colors and creativity of Custo Barcelona, ??today it’s time to lower the revolutions with the minimalism of Michael Kors and the innate elegance of Altuzarra. Tomorrow, the Latin accent will once again be one of the highlights of the day with the equally legendary Carolina Herrera.
