Another royal wedding in sight. This time, for nine days, as is the tradition in Brunei. The one getting married is Prince Abdul Mateen, the fourth son of the Sultan of Brunei and his former second wife, Mariam Abdul Aziz. At 32, the groom has the profile of a Hollywood star.
He is an influencer – he has more than two million followers on social networks -, polo player, aviator, a regular at high society parties… In short, a prince of fashion. For all this and because he is the son of one of the richest men on the planet – the Sultan’s fortune is valued at more than 20,000 million dollars – he is considered one of the golden bachelors of royalty on the Asian continent. But for a few days, because in January he will marry his girlfriend, Anisha Rosnah binti Adam, 31 years old, granddaughter of the aristocrat Isa bin Ibrahim, advisor to the Sultan. Suspicions of their engagement were raised when Anisha wore a diamond ring on her ring finger to Mateen’s sister Princess Azemah’s wedding in January.
The Prince of Brunei is the last child of the couple formed by the Sultan and his ex-wife Miriam Abdul Aziz to go down the aisle, as his two older sisters, Princesses Fadzilah and Azemah, already went there in January 2022 and 2023, respectively. His older brother died in 2020.
Abdul Matten is sixth in line to the throne of Brunei, so his chances of reigning are virtually nil. He has sometimes been seen accompanying his father, Hassanal Bolkiah, on trips abroad. For example, he was his companion at the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II and at the coronation of Charles III.
Graduated in International Politics from King’s College London, specialized in International Studies and Diplomacy. In addition, he completed his postgraduate studies at the University’s School of Oriental and African Studies in the same British capital. For military training, he went through the Sandhurst academy, the same one that William and Henry of England went to. Likewise, he graduated as a helicopter pilot at the Defense Flying School at RAF Shawbury in the United Kingdom. And he holds the rank of captain in his country’s armed forces.
But if we take a look at his Instagram account, you can see that his passion is sport. He plays polo, football and badminton; he also practices boxing, skiing, bodybuilding and diving. And from his father he inherited his love for luxury cars and cats.
