The Union of Sports Federations of Catalonia (UFEC) has announced today that it will advance two million more euros to the Catalan sports federations. This amount is paid to finance the subsidies of these entities that the Government has not yet paid. Furthermore, this payment is added to the three million euros that the UFEC financed its member entities in advance on account of the subsidy from the Generalitat.

Non-profit sports entities ask the Government to assume the interest on the financing derived from the administration’s arrears and to actually double the budget allocated to the world of sports. The Catalan sports federations have not yet received the subsidy for the 22-23 season, which has already ended.

“There are federations that have not been able to pay the salaries of their staff,” denounced the president of the UFEC, Gerard Esteva, who emphasizes that “this situation forces them to work without planning” and forces them to give up “certain sporting activities.” Also by athletes when taking part in international competitions. Furthermore, Esteva remembers that this situation causes very critical treasury tensions such as the extra cost of policies or the inability to pay suppliers.

The UFEC and the Union of Sports Councils of Catalonia (UCEC) joined forces three weeks ago, in a press conference under the motto, Actions, not words. Please pay, to condemn the delay in payments and administrative procedures of the Generalitat of Catalonia, which already amounts to 20 million euros since the 2020-21 season.

The UFEC and the UCEC also requested in this act that the Generalitat of Catalonia assume the extra cost of financing derived from the administration’s arrears along with late payment interest, valued at more than 1.5 million euros. Likewise, it also demands that the budget allocated to the world of sports be doubled, as promised by the Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, in her speech in the Parliament of Catalonia on June 28, 2021.
