María León has managed to carve out a complete career as an actress beyond her connection with Paco León, her brother, one of the best-known performers on the Spanish scene. A career in which she has alternated between the small and big screen, with projects such as Los Japones, Carmina y Amén, The Sleeping Voice or There Below. However, it was a very particular one that started everything for the Sevillian: SMS, Without fear of dreaming.

This series was one of the first productions of La Sexta in 2006, although it would only last until the following year. Its plot details the life of a group of upper-class teenagers, to whom the arrival of a young man from the neighborhood into their environment completely upsets them. The young plot and the social contrast were the main assets of this project, which sought to become a more modern equivalent of Leaving Class.

The adventure lasted a total of two seasons and 185 episodes, in which a large cast of actors participated who, today, are widely known in Spain: Amaia Salamanca, Yon González, María Castro, Mario Casas or herself. María León, who recalled her experience on the Cadena SER TV program La Ventana. There, the Andalusian confessed the message she received from her director, Daniel Écija.

“I remember that when I was going to film I was equally excited as I was afraid. At the end the director told me: very good María, but remove the two corners that are white from the tension, luckily I can no longer have that. He remembered how tender she was. The desire she had, but the cake was missing a while,” he acknowledged, without any fear. The actress understood that she still had a long way to go, which she would end up accomplishing.

León has been busy in other areas in recent months, in particular managing a complaint of assault to the Seville Local Police. The interpreter accused a group of agents of the force of perpetrating a crime of illegal detention in October 2022, attacking her and causing damage to her moral integrity. At the end of last February, the Provincial Court of Seville dismissed her appeal, understanding that the action was carried out within the framework of the Law.

The order issued by Justice indicates that “there is not the slightest indication that the Local Police agents” in charge of arresting the actress “intentionally attacked and injured her,” as León and his team of lawyers defend. After this rejection, the Investigative Court number 18 of Seville has decided to archive the case.
