Real Madrid has a new problem. The Frenchman Eduardo Camavinga, one of the essential starters for Ancelotti due to his versatility, suffered an injury to his right knee on Wednesday in training with the French team due to a chance blow with the ex-Azulgrana Ousmane Dembélé. According to the first diagnosis made public by the Blue team, the player has suffered a sprain, the exact severity of which is not yet known.

Camavinga left his team’s training camp yesterday and returned to the Madrid team to undergo more tests in the capital of Spain. At the white club they fear that they could lose the midfielder for eight weeks. If the worst deadlines are confirmed, the player will not be able to return to the playing fields until January.

Camavinga, 21, was called up for France to play in the European Championship qualifying match against Gibraltar in Nice on Saturday. In Wednesday’s session, Ousmane Dembélé, who wanted to dribble with him, lost his balance and fell with his weight on the Real Madrid player’s right knee.

Camavinga’s loss is important for Madrid, since he has participated in all 17 games this season, either as a midfielder or as a left back. In 13 of them he has been a starter. Only the Frenchman, Valverde and Rodrygo have been present in all the matches.

Recently renewed until 2029, Camavinga is one more in the long list of injuries that have ended up costing the team’s doctor the last seven seasons, Croatian doctor Niko Mihic, his job. In the last match against Valencia, Carlo Ancelotti could no longer count on Jude Bellingham, Tchouaméni, Kepa, Arda Güler and Dani Ceballos, in addition to the long-term injured Éder Militão and Courtois.

The possibilities that Carlo Ancelotti now has to replace Camavinga are several, but none of the replacements has the dynamism of the injured one. The option that seems most logical would be to delay Toni Kroos so that he could play as a defensive pivot, something that he doesn’t like too much, but that he has done many times. Among them with both positive results (the 0-4 at the Camp Nou in the semi-final of the last Cup), and negative ones (the 4-0 that Manchester City gave them in the Champions League semi-final).

Other options would be to play with David Alaba, who already played in that position at Bayern, or bet on the Castilla youth player Mario Martín.
