National Police agents have arrested a 49-year-old man accused of having two workers on a farm in the municipality of Deleitosa without a contract and living in “inhumane conditions” in a construction container, without a bed or kitchen.
These two workers subsisted “without the possibility of washing themselves, having to fulfill their physiological needs in the field” and consumed “the food provided for the animals, such as moldy bread and rotten potatoes,” according to the National Police in a press release.
The investigation of this operation, called ‘Dehesa’, was carried out by agents from the Immigration Brigade of the Cáceres Police Station, together with the Provincial Labor Inspection, and began when they became aware of the existence of two people in an irregular situation, who They could be working on a farm in the town of Deleitosa in deplorable conditions.
After locating the property where these two people would be, the agents carried out an inspection, in which they verified that the two employees lacked a residence and work permit in Spain, they did not have an employment contract nor were they registered in the Social Security, and “of course they worked in leonine conditions, practically 24 hours a day, every day of the week and without receiving the promised salary.”
The National Police explains that what caught the attention of the agents the most was the “precarious situation in which these people lived” housed in a construction container, so after releasing them, on October 29 they proceeded to arrest the sole administrator of the aforementioned property, for his alleged responsibility for two crimes against workers’ rights.
The detainee is a 49-year-old man, who after the investigation of the relevant report was placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
