Ukraine invasion: Hundreds take to the streets of NYC amid protests by Russia's Putin protesters

Photographs show that hundreds of protestors poured onto the streets of New York City on Thursday to protest Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attacks on Ukraine.

Protests broke out in various parts of the city. An estimated 500+ protestors marched from Times Square towards the Permanent Mission for the Russian Feder. The demonstrators marched down Lexington Avenue to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, East 47th Street, Manhattan.

They chanted “hands off Ukraine”, “stop Russia now,” and “stand with Ukraine” among other chants. They also sang the Ukrainian national anthem.

Ukrainian national Sul said that he attended Thursday’s protest because he needed to be with his people.

“I couldn’t stay at home and do nothing. He said that he tried to contact his family in Ukraine, but it was impossible due to the fact that people have been cut off from the internet. “I couldn’t handle it staying home,” he stated to Fox News. “I had to be there for my family, stand by them, and stand with Ukraine.”

Sul stated that his mother and father are still in Ukraine, while his brothers are currently in the military.

Oleh Lyashko, Ukraine’s Health Minister, has confirmed that over 50 people have been killed in Russia’s attack and that more than 160 people have been injured.

Protests were held as President Biden addressed nation about Russia’s ongoing invasion.
Biden stated that he had issued new sanctions against Russia but did not take more severe actions. He said that the Russian leader “chosen this war” and Russia would bear the consequences.

Biden stated that the sanctions will be applied to Russian banks, oligarchs, and high-tech industries. The United States and its allies will impose export restrictions and sanctions on oligarchs, block assets at four major Russian banks and impose asset freezes.

Biden stated that the U.S. would send additional troops to Germany in order to support NATO following the invasion of Ukraine. Germany is not a member. An additional 7,000 U.S. troops are expected to be deployed.

Despite the pleas of Ukraine, Biden resisted the imposition of some of the most severe possible sanctions. This included cutting Russia from the SWIFT payment system which allows money transfers from one bank to another around the world.
