A woman in Sweetwater, Florida, has been charged with third-degree grand theft and battery after allegedly trying to leave a beauty salon without paying for expensive hair extensions. Heidys Guzman, 37, was arrested and appeared in court where her bond was set at $3,500.
The incident occurred on September 6 at Yanka’s Hair Extension salon, where owner Yanka Castillo claimed Guzman refused to pay after having the extensions applied for four hours. When Castillo confronted her about payment, Guzman allegedly tried to leave and even attacked Castillo when she called the police.
Surveillance footage from the salon captured the altercation, showing Guzman arguing with others before attempting to grab Castillo’s phone. Castillo mentioned that Guzman had tried a similar scheme at another salon, using a fake credit card for payment.
Despite dying her hair black in an attempt to evade capture, Guzman was eventually located and taken into custody. She currently remains in jail after failing to pay her bond.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by small businesses, like beauty salons, in dealing with theft and fraudulent activities. It is essential for business owners to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their establishments from such incidents.
