President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Tom Homan, the former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, will be taking on the role of “border czar” in his new administration. Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social site, praising Homan for his dedication to border control.
Homan’s appointment comes as no surprise, given Trump’s promise to carry out the largest deportation operation in the nation’s history. In his new role, Homan will be responsible for overseeing security at the southern and northern borders, as well as maritime and aviation security. He will also lead efforts to deport illegal immigrants back to their home countries.
Unlike many government positions, the role of border czar does not require Senate confirmation. Homan recently spoke on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” where he emphasized that the deportation operation would be carried out in a targeted and humane manner by the men and women of ICE.
Homan’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws was evident earlier this year at the National Conservatism Conference, where he expressed frustration with media coverage of deportation efforts. He vowed to ramp up deportation operations if Trump were to return to office in January 2025, stressing that no one who is in the country illegally would be exempt.
Overall, Homan’s appointment as border czar signals a continued focus on immigration enforcement in the Trump administration. With his extensive experience in border control, Homan is expected to play a key role in shaping immigration policy in the coming years.
