Tinder continues to work on improving the security of its users. The latest measure in this direction has been to implement a verification system through photos and videos. Specifically, the application will ask all users who want to register to take a series of video selfies to show that they are the people they say they are.
The new function will be essential to obtain the blue verified badge and its main objective is to improve the security of all its users, but also to reduce accounts generated by artificial intelligence, as well as other false profiles.
The move comes at a time when it is much easier to take advantage of artificial intelligence tools to create fake photos and profiles, which could fill the dating app with fake people, who are really just bots willing to spam their users. possible couples.
For this reason, requiring video verification is a much more effective means of verifying that people are who they say they are, and being able to filter out both accounts engaged in spam or other harmful activity, such as harassment.
Tinder’s new verification process will consist of recording a video of yourself in the app using the device’s front camera. Subsequently, the application will be in charge of verifying through the AI that the person in this video corresponds to the one in the photos shared on the profile.
The new verification on Tinder will also give paid users the option to communicate exclusively with other members who also have this blue tick, thus creating secure private circles.
In addition, the company has also explained in a statement that it plans to ask users who already have the blue tick to be verified with a video, but have not yet gone through this new process.
The company claims it has data showing that profile verification increases the number of matches – or compatibility – on the service, as users feel more confident that their potential match is a real person and not a bot or scammer. .
In this sense, Tinder states that, for example, for its users between the ages of 18 and 25, having a verified profile gives them 10% more chances of finding a partner.
Other dating apps like Hinge already use this new type of verification, as well as other companies like Apple and Google.
