This Monday, December 4, Movistar will begin marketing a pioneering service in Spain to improve connectivity at home. Thanks to Fiber FTTR or ‘Fiber to the Room’ technology, the company aims to offer equal fiber optic speed in all the nooks and crannies of the house without the need to do any work or pull cable through the walls.
According to Telefónica in a statement, the ‘Movistar FTTR Fiber’ service will ensure total coverage in every corner of the home. This will allow the simultaneous use of multiple devices with minimal latency, maximum speeds of up to 1 Gbps and continuous monitoring of the network 24 hours a day with optimal performance.
Until now, the solution to connectivity problems in the different rooms of the home has been the use of repeaters, but even with them, the speed can be reduced in some spaces of the house. Movistar’s solution is to put fiber in all rooms of the home. This service aims to respond to the large demand for traffic generated by connecting different smart devices (such as mobile phones, computers and even smart light bulbs) to the network.
The installation of this service does not require any works. It consists of connecting several secondary WiFi access points using a thin, transparent fiber cable, practically invisible, that adheres to any surface without affecting the aesthetics of the home. This ultra-thin cable guarantees signal speed, quality and continuity.
Telefónica highlights that the ‘Movistar FTTR Fiber’ service will be ideal for all types of homes, but particularly for medium and large ones that have a complex distribution. Also for those users who have a pronounced interest in advanced network features (teleworking, gamers, etc.). This technology can make up for the shortcomings offered by others without having to buy extra accessories.
The B2C director of Telefónica Spain, Óscar Candiles, points out that Movistar FTTR Fiber aims to bring “the full potential of our fiber to any room in a home, always at maximum speed, with total coverage and impeccable aesthetics. It is a pioneering solution that responds to users’ demand for ultra connectivity in every corner of their home to be able to study, work, play, watch series or movies, with maximum quality and without weak WiFi coverage points.”
The service will be available from this Monday, December 4, for the first time for users who are already clients of miMovistar and Fusión in the communities of Madrid and Barcelona, ??and can also be requested in Movistar stores. The commercialization of the service will gradually expand to cover the entire Spanish territory.
‘Movistar FTTR Fiber’ will cost 9.90 euros per month (VAT included) regardless of the contracted package, plus a registration fee of 120 euros. It has a stay of 24 months and a penalty of 100 euros.
