Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is requesting a trial date for the sex trafficking charges he is facing. His lawyers informed the judge that he prefers a trial in April or May, as mentioned in a joint letter between his legal team and prosecutors. The prosecutors stated their availability for the trial but did not specify their preferred timing.
Combs, who has been in custody since his arrest on September 16, is accused of physically and sexually abusing women over the years. He has entered a plea of not guilty. The indictment alleges that Combs used coercion and abuse with the help of his associates and employees, resorting to blackmail, violent acts, and intimidation to silence his victims.
His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, argues that the prosecutors are trying to criminalize consensual sexual encounters that Combs has had. He asserts that Combs plans to prove his innocence at the trial. The letter submitted to Judge Arun Subramanian did not mention the possibility of continued detention without bail for Combs.
In a recent development, Combs’ legal team has filed an appeal with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, seeking to reverse the detention orders and secure his release pending trial. The defense argues that Combs is not a flight risk and poses no danger to the community, highlighting his standing as a father, citizen, artist, businessman, and philanthropist.
Prosecutors informed the judge that they have started sharing evidence with the defense, including a vast amount of electronically stored information related to the case. This includes search warrants, seized phones, and iCloud account reports belonging to Combs. The government is in the process of copying data from multiple devices and iCloud accounts associated with the defendant.
