Miramar, Florida – Police officers in South Florida are showing the importance of mentoring for the youth by launching a new program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward. The program, called Big Futures, Bigs in Badges, aims to help Miramar High School students prepare for successful careers after graduation.

Students will be paired with mentor-officers from the Miramar Police Department and will meet monthly for activities designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed for their future endeavors. Brian Rojas, a student at Miramar High School, expressed the significance of this mentorship program, especially for students who have faced challenges, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officer Jermane Rose from the Miramar Police Department highlighted the importance of being a supportive voice for the students. He emphasized that the mentor-officer relationship is built on open communication and a genuine friendship, where students can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and concerns.

This initiative marks the first time that the Miramar Police Department has collaborated with Big Brothers Big Sisters to host such a program. The event not only aims to guide and support the students but also hopes to inspire them to consider a future in law enforcement or community leadership roles.

The partnership between law enforcement officers and students is a testament to the commitment of the Miramar Police Department to invest in the youth and foster positive relationships within the community. By providing guidance, support, and inspiration, the mentorship program strives to empower students to reach their full potential and become future leaders in society.

As the program progresses, both the mentors and students are expected to benefit from the valuable experiences and lessons learned through their interactions. The impact of such initiatives goes beyond academic and career development, as it also promotes personal growth, resilience, and a sense of belonging among the youth.

In a time where guidance and support are crucial for the younger generation, programs like Big Futures, Bigs in Badges serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for students to thrive and succeed in their chosen paths.
