Hubspot, Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Yahoo… There are various email providers. And it is not for less considering the number of active email users around the world. Statista, a website specializing in statistics, expects that by “end of 2025” there will be “4.5 billion users” of email.
But, without a doubt, one of the most popular is Gmail, the tool from the giant Google. According to data from Finance Online, this email platform had 1.8 billion active users in 2020 and a total of 300 billion emails were sent and received that same year.
With this data, it is not surprising that email platforms have become essential applications in the work and personal lives of millions of people. From professional, informative emails, reservation confirmations to promotions or offers from your favorite stores. With so many emails, it is common for our Gmail inbox to fill up the available space (usually 15 Gb) and we have to start deleting emails.
One of the easiest ways to delete emails and avoid filling up your Gmail storage is to start deleting your oldest emails. For this, the Google provider provides us with the “older_than” filter. This filter helps us to delete old emails in a very precise way. Depending on the number and letter that you enter immediately after “older_than” you will be able to select emails that are more than 6 or 12 months old. Thus, if you write in the Gmail search bar “older_than:6m” you will find all the emails older than 6 months, if you write “older_than:12m”, those you received more than a year ago. But not only that. Google also has a filter to select those emails older than 2 years: “older_than:2y”.
Over time, Gmail has been incorporating functions that make it easier for us to write emails. One of its latest updates has been the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) based on our writing habits. In this way, Gmail as we write an email, Gmail shows us suggestions that are suitable for our writing in order to help us write it in the best possible way. Other outstanding functions are the categorization of inbox emails in different tabs such as “main”, “social” or “promotions” or its ability to generate automatic responses when someone sends us an email.
