Twitter has undergone important changes since the arrival of Elon Musk. From the famous subscription plan to obtain the verification seal to the platform’s recent rebranding, X. Now the technology mogul has suggested that the social network could no longer be free.
He confessed this during an informal conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The CEO of Tesla mentioned that On twitter.
It is not the first time that Musk slips the idea that the microblogging platform should be a paid service to survive. It should be remembered that shortly after taking over the leadership of Twitter, advertisers left the platform en masse, which has had an impact on the company’s income statement. Musk has since been looking for formulas to reverse the economic situation of X. This summer, the social network has launched different strategies, including the possibility that users who pay for the subscription service can monetize their activity on the network.
Until now, X has been pushing its subscription service, previously known as Twitter Blue and now as X Premium. This service allows users to perform extra functions, such as the ability to edit tweets and an ad-free experience. However, statistics indicate that X Premium has not attracted the majority of the platform’s users, with only 827,615 subscribers to date.
This package has a rate of $8 monthly or $84 annually, depending on the payment method, in the United States. In Spain the cost is higher: 9.68 euros per month or 101.64 euros per year.
During the conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Musk also shared new metrics about the platform. He assured that the social network now has 550 million monthly users, who generate between 100 and 200 million daily publications.
However, it is unknown if these figures include posts made by bots. The exact number of this type of accounts and their activity has never been revealed. In May 2022, the Twitter audit tool SparkToro stated that at that time 20% of the platform’s users could be bots, while the same social network pointed out that it was less than 5%.
