Apple wants to make the premium range its flagship. The iPhone 15 Pro goes much further than the normal iPhone 15 and they also do so while containing prices compared to previous generations. Everything about the Pro is extreme: from a design with titanium edges, to a powerful chip like no other, at the moment, in the mobile industry, and a very complete photographic package that improves the already excellent features of the previous models. The presentation also marked the farewell to the Lightning connector, launched 11 years ago, and the adoption, forced by the European Union, of USB-C. One cable for everything
This time there were few surprises in the presentation. As expected, the top of the range models are the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The first has a 6.1-inch screen and the second 6.7. The titanium bezel, with rounded edges, has a brushed texture. This is grade 5 titanium, which Apple noted in the presentation is the same used for the lunar rover. This material has allowed us to somewhat lighten the weight of these models.
The iPhone 15 Pro has a powerful chip called A17 Pro, which is the first in the world to be launched with 3 nanometer technology (a nanometer is one billionth of a meter). It contains 19 billion transistors, a six-core central processor, another six-core graphics card that performs one of the tasks of video game consoles, ray tracing, which makes video games more realistic. USB-C on Pro models has data transfer of up to 10 gigabits per second. In short, it is a very, very powerful machine for any task, no matter how demanding.
In the photographic section, the iPhone 15 Pro maintains three lenses (zoom, angle and wide angle) and takes advantage of the 48 megapixels of the main one to expand the cropping range. The main photographic novelty is that Apple has installed a periscopic lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which allows it to reach up to 5x magnification. This sensor also has a three-axis stabilizer. It should be noted that the Pro can also take three-dimensional photography using two of its sensors to be viewed with the Vision Pro viewer presented last June.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus inherit the excellent A16 Bionic chip from the iPhone 14 Pro and the Dynamic Island, which takes advantage of the dark area that hides the front camera and facial identification sensors to establish a dynamic area of ??notifications and running applications in background. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen. Both also inherit from the previous generation the 48 megapixel main sensor which, thanks to the cutouts, allows several focal lengths, 0.5, 1 and two times magnification.
Apple announced during the presentation that the satellite emergency call service will reach iPhone users in Spain at the end of this month. All Apple devices now incorporate a new U2 ultra-wideband chip that improves location services.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in four colors of titanium: black, white, blue and natural. The iPhone 15 Pro will be priced from 1,219 euros and can be chosen with 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of capacity. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available from 1,469 euros with 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of storage capacity. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in pink, yellow, green, blue and black with 128, 256 or 512 GB capacity from €959 and €1,109.
Apple has also presented the second generation Apple Watch Ultra, with an S9 encapsulated chip that has 5.6 billion transistors and a new function that allows it to be used with only one hand by simply bringing the thumb and index finger together. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will cost 899 euros. It can be purchased now and will be available on September 22, and the Apple Watch Series 9, which will be available from 449 euros. The Apple Watch SE has a starting price of 279 euros.
