The Mutua Madrid Open will install a clay tennis court in the Plaza Mayor between April 6 and 26 that can be rented to play from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in one-hour shifts at the price of a euro.
The tournament organization details in a statement that the assembly began on Monday, April 1, first thing in the morning, so that the court is ready on the dates indicated in order to promote the Mutua Madrid Open competition, which will take place between April 22 and May 5.
Last year, the court was placed in the Plaza de Colón and had a “resounding success” as the available hours were sold out “quickly”, according to Gerard Tsobanian, CEO of the Mutua Madrid Open.
“This time we have chosen the Plaza Mayor for everything it means for the city, and also on a tourist level,” says Tsobanian, who thanks the Madrid City Council for “its collaboration” in allowing the installation of the track.
The playing field is an “identical” reproduction of the Manolo Santana Stadium – the Caja Mágica – in the capital, where the competition will be held, at the foot of the Manzanares Linear Park in the Usera district.
