Red Sox-White Sox game delayed by 3 bottles thrown toward the field

CHICAGO (AP) — A delay occurred in the fourth inning of Friday night’s Boston Red Sox-Chicago White Sox game after three small bottles were thrown toward the field. The White Sox spokesperson described the bottles as plastic and “travel-sized.” While there were no injuries reported, the team is conducting an investigation into the incident.

This unexpected interruption took place just before Paul DeJong was up to bat with runners on first and second, and one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. DeJong mentioned during the White Sox TV broadcast that the bottles were “flying full bottles of liquor,” and unfortunately, a child in the front row was struck in the head and had to leave the game.

Despite the disturbance, the Chicago White Sox managed to break a 14-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox. White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn expressed his concern, stating that he heard about the child being hit. Vaughn added, “I was on-deck, (Gavin Sheets) was up and heard a loud thud and looked down and there was a little shot glass or something right in front of me.”

Following the game, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol commended the swift response of the ballpark security team. Grifol mentioned, “I really don’t know where they came from. One landed close to me and closer to some fans there. The most important thing is we notified security and they took care of it. We didn’t have any more issues.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment at sporting events, and the need for increased vigilance to prevent such occurrences from happening in the future.
