Nico Melamed will undergo surgery this Tuesday to treat the discomfort in his left shoulder that has been weighing him down since last season. This was expressed this Monday by RCD Espanyol in a statement explaining the roadmap. The blue and white club and the player consider the operation as “the best solution” to overcome the injury in question.

The Perica entity initially opted for conservative treatment for the 22-year-old player, which ultimately did not prosper and Melamed is expected to be discharged from the hospital this Wednesday. However, Espanyol does not specify a return date to the playing fields for the Spanish footballer.

The player has played 13 games this season, eleven of them as a starter. However, he has missed the last few matches with Luís Miguel Ramis’s team due to an injury that has made it impossible for him to “compete in full physical capacity,” according to the statement.

The blue and white club fears losing the youth player, who has a contract until June 30, 2024. Espanyol does not want the same thing to happen to Melamed that happened this summer with Adrià Pedrosa: the left-back ended up in the last transfer market in Sevilla as a free agent, after suffering a long period of recovery due to injury.
