The Valencian Government formed by PP and Vox will approve its first budget of the legislature this Wednesday without any problems. After eight years of left-wing governments where the approval of the accounts was negotiated between the partners until injury time, the conservative parties have shown calm and tranquility when approaching the preparation of the budgets of the Generalitat Valenciana for 2024 and they have hardly shown internal discrepancies in the parliamentary process, despite the opposition’s attempts to tickle them.

As a prior step to the approval of the accounts for next year, which will be voted on this Wednesday in the Valencian Parliament in the last plenary session of the session, the new parliamentary majority of PP and Vox yesterday approved the Accompaniment Law which complements, through some regulatory changes, the future accounts of the Consell.

Among the ratified proposals, the introduction of tax deductions for low and medium incomes stands out; the changes in the obligation to teach a minimum of 25% of teaching hours in Valencian in areas with linguistic exemption or the recent approval – via amendment – that will allow gambling houses located less than 800 meters from schools renew your licenses without having to look for another location. Despite the social protest, the parties that support the Government have resisted rectifying this latest measure.

During these first months of the legislature, PP and Vox have demonstrated their understanding on fundamental issues and government action, beyond evidencing different positions on issues such as gender violence or climate change.

In fact, the beginning of the legislature has been much more placid than could be expected after the approval of a Government pact that generated the attention of all of Spain and that directly influenced the electoral result of the general elections. The profile of Vox members in the Government has also influenced facilitating this cordiality between the two political forces.

In this way, day-to-day life has been quite calm within the Consell and not even that break in relations at the national level between both parties that Vox announced has had an impact on the Valencian scene.

It remains to be seen if the surprising change in the spokesperson of the Vox parliamentary group in some way affects this good relationship after the extreme right’s commitment to a tougher profile, but, for now, Mazón will manage to approve his first accounts this Wednesday without having had to make large concessions to a less uncomfortable government partner than expected.
