Manchester City and Inter Milan meet this Saturday in the final of the Champions League, the highest competition in European football. Pep Guardiola’s team intends to register his name for the first time in the tournament’s list of winners, while the Italians fight to reach their fourth title in the final to be held in Istanbul.

It is the second final for the English, who do not have good memories of their last attempt. It was during the 2020/21 campaign, where they lost to Chelsea 1-0 at the Do Dragao stadium in Porto (Portugal).

Manchester City, who beat Real Madrid in the semifinals, is one step away from making history: it would be their first Champions League and they would enter the select club of those who have managed to sign a treble.

Only seven teams have achieved the holy trinity of football (league, domestic cup and Champions), but only one of them is English. It was United, in the 1998-1999 season, with Ferguson on the bench, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Roy Keane on the field.

Inter Milan haven’t been in a Champions League final for a long time, but their record supports them. The Italian team will play their sixth final. They won in the 1963/64 seasons (3-1 against Real Madrid), 1964/65 (1-0 against Benfica) and 2009/10 (2-0 against Bayern Munich), and lost in the 1966/67 seasons (1- 2 with Celtic) and 1971/72 (0-2 with Ajax).

Guardiola warns of the danger of his rival: “By history, they are better than us. But this is going to be better than the rival in the 90 minutes. What you have done in the group stage does not count, neither in the Premier League nor in the FA Cup. We have to be better than them.”

The Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan will be held this Saturday in Istanbul, at 9:00 p.m. The meeting can be seen on television through RTVE’s La 1 and can also be followed live on the La Vanguardia website.
