The Swede Armand Duplantis surpassed his own pole vault world record by registering a mark of 6.24 meters at the start of the Diamond League circuit in Xiamen (China), one centimeter more than the previous record, which was also in his possession.
Duplantis, 24, dominated the contest from the start without much opposition. In fact, he started by jumping 5.62, a mark that only five of the ten registered reached.
The Swedish jumper, undefeated in the indoor season, secured victory with his second jump of 5.82 meters but looked confident about breaking his own world record. The next step was the 6 meters and, on the first attempt, he reached 6.24.
American Sam Kendricks, double world champion, reached 5.82 meters on his second attempt. He then tried to reach six meters but in none of his three jumps did he manage to overcome the barrier.
With those 6.24 meters, Duplantis, double outdoor world champion and Olympic champion in Tokyo, broke the pole vault world record in Xiamen for the eighth time, improving by one centimeter the previous record that he himself had held since he arrived. at 6.23 at the closing of the 2023 Diamond League in Eugene (United States).
