Northern Ireland Striker Dion Charles Withdraws from Squad Due to Knee Injury

Striker Dion Charles has unfortunately withdrawn from the Northern Ireland senior men’s squad ahead of the upcoming friendlies against Spain and Andorra. The Bolton Wanderers forward has experienced a recurrence of a knee injury that hampered his club appearances towards the end of the EFL League One season.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill provided an update on the squad, stating that all players and staff have been diligently preparing for the crucial friendly against Spain. Despite a productive training week, Dion Charles had to pull out due to his knee injury, leaving the squad with 25 players.

The team has been training in Murcia since the previous week, gearing up for the match against Spain at Son Moix Stadium in Mallorca on Saturday, 8th June. O’Neill highlighted the positive atmosphere within the young squad, emphasizing their strong work ethic and camaraderie.

As the squad moves to Mallorca for the upcoming game, they will continue their preparations at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. The match against Spain is scheduled to kick off at 20.30 BST, followed by a friendly against Andorra at Estadio Nueva Condomina in Murcia on Tuesday, 11th June at 19.45 BST.

The revised 25-player Northern Ireland squad includes notable names such as Jonny Evans, Jamal Lewis, and Corry Evans among others. The team is ready to face the challenges ahead and showcase their talents on the international stage.
