The technical duo formed by Dennis González and Mireia Hernández finished the preliminary this Saturday with the third best place, behind the Chinese and Italian couple, on the second day of the artistic swimming events of the Doha World Cup.
The Spanish duo suffered a change in their composition with the entry of Hernández for Emma García, who was suffering from physical problems.
In the last World Cup, González and García won silver, behind the Japanese Tomoka and Yotaro Sato, who are not taking part in Doha. Yes, the Chinese Wentao Cheng and Haoyu Shi do, who won bronze in Fukuoka, but now lead the provisional classification with 250,515 points.
The Asians have only 1.6 points compared to the Italians Giorgio Minisini and Susanna Pedotti, who are second and also clear contenders for the title. The transalpines did not compete in Fukuoka, due to Minisini’s injury.
The Spaniards, who are 12.90 in the lead, debuted choreography, an exercise based on African tribal music, inspired by Congo rhythms with rhythm and voices, and in which they seemed to practically dance in the water.
This is the delegation’s third medal option in artistic swimming, after Dennis González’s third place in the technical solo preliminary and the second position of the technical duo with Alisa Ozhogina and Iris Tió. The final of the technical duo is this Sunday at 6 p.m.
