Closed Sessions, a renowned Chicago hip-hop label, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a star-studded lineup featuring Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs headlining the event. The label has been instrumental in showcasing midwestern hip-hop talent and connecting artists from across the country who share a passion for the genre’s rich history.
The anniversary party featured a lineup of local artists who have been closely associated with Closed Sessions throughout the years. Defcee, known for his intricate lyrics, performed alongside producer BoatHouse, who collaborated on the critically acclaimed album “For All Debts Private and Public.” GreenSllime, a versatile rapper, producer, and DJ, showcased his latest project with Chicago artist Iceface, titled “Wolves Eat Goats.”
SolarFive, another prominent figure in the Chicago indie hip-hop scene, has been part of the beat collective OnGaud and recently released an album with producer Custom Made. DJ Rude One, a seasoned producer, has been championing emerging voices in hip-hop and teased the release of the new Closed Sessions album “Upper Space” with singles featuring Roc Marciano and Valee.
The event also featured performances by DJ Ca$h Era, DJ RTC (Closed Sessions cofounder Alex Fruchter), and the label’s newest signee, rapper Recoechi. The celebration highlighted the label’s commitment to nurturing local talent and fostering a vibrant hip-hop community in Chicago.
