Ángel Morales, former Espanyol player during three stages (1996-1998, 2000-2005 and 2006), has accused Joselu of being a blackmailer on his social networks. The forward, who scored 17 goals in his only season in Catalan lands, left the blue and white discipline after relegation to the Second Division.
Pedro Nieto, LaLiga commentator on Movistar, published a message on his X (Twitter) account after Real Madrid’s comeback in the Champions League semi-finals: “Espanyol has Joselu on loan to Real Madrid.” Morales, who was part of the Catalan team’s grassroots football structure between 2012 and 2020, responded to the tweet criticizing the Madrid striker: “Beyond the football debate, on loan would not be the ideal adjective. “Joselu blackmailed the RCDE and got off the boat when he was needed most.”
Nieto continued the conversation, clarifying that the German-born footballer is still owned by Espanyol: “Yes, yes, but on loan. He left as many others have left, in good or bad ways. The only clear thing is that the club gave in to their demands.”
The former captain of the blue and white team settled the debate with a forceful message: “To your blackmail. And I better not continue.”
This is not the first time that Joselu has been linked to blackmailing a club. Last week a court ruling came to light to which El Correo had access. When he was wearing the Deportivo Alavés shirt, the forward threatened to ‘lower his performance’ if the babazorro team did not let him leave in case of relegation. The Basques could choose to renew his contract for another year, but in the end they relented and the current Real Madrid footballer ended up at Espanyol.
