Next Saturday, August 26, the first stage of the ‘Ruta de les Àmfores’ will take place in a festive day of sea canoeing that will serve as a pilot test and demonstration of this future project that aims to boost sports tourism and culture on the Catalan coast, recalling the route that the Romans followed to bring wine in amphorae to Narbonne.

This zero stage of the project will have the Port of Badalona as its starting point and will end at Las Barcas beach in Sant Pol de Mar, after a 37 km journey. V6, V1 and V2 canoes, Surfski and traditional kayak are expected to take part. The arrival of the maritime entourage, headed by a Polynesian canoe, is scheduled for around 6:30 p.m.

The ‘Ruta de les Àmfores’ reproduces the route taken by the Roman ships that transported wine to the town of Narbonne, in France. The purpose is to unite the entire coast to allow small boats such as kayaks and canoes to make this journey by sea and, on their way, find reception points to leave the boat, spend the night and discover at the same time the history and the tourist attractions of these towns.

People who want to participate in the journey, either with their boat or taking over from the rowers, can register through a form.

If any adverse weather situation occurs, the activity will be moved to September 16.
