They record a whale nursing its calf for the first time

Finding a recording of a whale nursing its calf has been a dream for thousands of scientists around the world due to the difficulty in capturing this moment, which had been a practically impossible discovery until now.

Scientists from Colombia and Spain have managed to immortalize the spectacular lactation of a humpback whale feeding its baby in Colombian waters thanks to a non-invasive camera installed on the calf’s body.

With the latest visual tracking sensor technology, the scientists have managed to rescue a document that has caused a breakthrough among marine biologists who are dedicated to studying the lives of these spectacular animals.

Thanks to these images, it will be possible to study in more depth what the lactation of small calves is like, the relationship between mother and calf, and review the high-quality recording for research related to whales.

The finding was the work of scientists who are part of the Macuáticos Colombia Foundation and Madre Agua, who have traveled around the world achieving the first video in the history of a whale calf breastfeeding.

The researchers have highlighted that a first look at the images already reveals surprising facts about how whales nurse their young and how the offspring stimulates the mother to obtain food in the open sea.
