Confusion in the PP for the lack of a clear guideline to agree with Vox

The various ways of dealing with the agreements between PP and Vox have caused confusion in the PP due to the absence of a clear directive to regional presidents. This is thought, above all, by the most veterans, accustomed to the disciplined power that ex-president José María Aznar imposed on the party, where the autonomy that the barons now have was unknown. However, Alberto Núñez Feijóo is convinced that “the noise will pass”.

Yesterday, the president of the PP again endorsed the two models, that of the Valencian Carlos Mazón and that of the extremist María Guardiola, both present, with Feijóo, at the inauguration of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, whose absolute majority has allowed her to be the first to obtain the investiture after 28- M. Mazón and Guardiola sat together, conversed leisurely and were the protagonists of the event, where there were also there was Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, president of Castilla y León, next president of La Rioja, and the leader of the party in Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Núñez, one of the few who will not govern.

No problem between Mazón and Guardiola, not even when they shared Ayuso’s office, before the event, first alone, with other barons, and then in the presence of Feijóo; but there is some tension between the other popular barons and the extremenya, assure PP sources. These raise objections to the way in which Guardiola expressed himself regarding Vox, they consider that it was exceeded and understand that his words leave his colleagues in a bad place. It was Esperanza Aguirre who gave voice to the sentiment: “Ms. Guardiola says she supports everything but Vox, I don’t know what she intends to do,” said the former Madrid president at the event. Aguirre believes that Guardiola’s words harm the interests of the leader of the PP, because the socialist Guillermo Fernández Vara will present himself at the investiture, “and it will be about this, what is talked about during the campaign and not about PP proposals”. On the contrary, Aguirre was full of praise for Mazón, who “without blowing it off the roof, and quickly, has made an agreement that includes the freedom of language choice in schools”.

Out of doors, despite this, neither Mazón is offended by Guardiola – that’s what he says – nor does she think that with her words she has put the former in the pillory because, both agree, “every community is a world”. They understand, as does Feijóo, that there is some confusion in the PP and in the streets, but the president of the PP is convinced that “the noise will pass” when the governments are formed, and then, he says, the voters will understand. In fact, it’s very difficult to find anyone in the party who criticizes the deals with Vox, sources say.

Feijóo, when asked which model he prefers, the Valencian one or the extreme one, emphasized that his model is that of the absolute majority as clear as the one Ayuso has obtained. It is “the model of the absolute majorities of Madrid, La Rioja or Galicia”, he said, which have been, he recalled, the ones he has always had and which he does not renounce now in Spain. It is the majority, he said, “of the great victories”. For this reason, he asks the Spaniards “a direct mandate from the polls” and assures them that he will not let them down.

What Feijóo did want to make clear is that, with Vox as a government or alone, “we maintain our principles and electoral commitments” and “we are consistent with the results of elections and provided by the quefa in our decisions”.

Meanwhile, the PP is still negotiating with Vox, even in Extremadura, even if there is no agreement for now, said its president. But even Guardiola pointed to the fact that the agreement is still possible, but in no case with Vox in the executive, something that Feijóo thinks is reasonable because Abascal’s only have five deputies.

In any case, Feijóo believes that the pacts will not punish the PP, and Mazón assures that the agreement is accepted in the street, to the point of daring to say that, of the eight current deputies in Congress, the Valencian PP n ‘will get close to 15 on 23- J. And it will be seen, he assures, how equality between men and women, whose powers will not be in the hands of Vox, will not have any setback.
