The heat will (finally) take a break this weekend. According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), on Saturday, with the exception of the Mediterranean area, the wind will turn to the west and a cooler Atlantic air mass will dominate, so the thermometers will drop in practically the entire peninsular territory . On Sunday the temperatures will rise almost everywhere, although in the Bay of Biscay the atmosphere will be cool.

Starting Monday, the intense heat returns. The arrival of a new mass of warm air from North Africa will leave next week a “marked thermal rise” with thermometers again at very high values, between 5 and 10 degrees above normal for the time of year in large areas. the country, warns the agency.

“The first days of next week (Monday to Wednesday) will be extremely hot around the Mediterranean basin, including the east of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. In these areas it could reach 40 or 42 degrees, and even locally more” , anticipates Aemet on his Twitter account.

In this way, next Monday and Tuesday it will exceed 36 degrees in many areas of the territory, between 38 or 40 degrees in the center and south of the peninsula and between 40-42 degrees in the Guadalquivir Valley.

The agency assures that “the week of July 17 to 23 will be warmer than normal in the east and south of the Peninsula, as well as in the archipelagos.” However, it will be cooler than normal in large areas of the northern third. In general, significant rains are not expected, they add.

July will end as it began, with a lot of heat. According to Aemet, for the last week of July, “high temperatures for the season are expected in the Mediterranean area and archipelagos, and cool in areas of the western third of the peninsula.” In the northwest there could be more rain than usual, as well as in isolated points of the Mediterranean.

Nor are major changes expected for the first week of August, when “the heat could continue above normal in the south of the Peninsula and islands.”
