The Iberian Peninsula, as the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned, is at the gates of a meteorological phenomenon that many Spaniards will not like: a significant and sustained increase in temperatures that will begin to be felt this Saturday August 19 and that will last throughout the week.

During Saturday, a rise in temperatures will begin on the Atlantic slope that will continue and extend to most areas of the Peninsula. This change in temperature will be felt in almost all regions, except in the southeast of the peninsula and the Andalusian Mediterranean, where temperatures will drop on Sunday. Temperatures will even reach 40 °C at points in the Ebro Valley and the Guadalquivir.

Contrasting with the thermal rise, Saturday morning will present a more humid and cool climate in the northeast of the peninsula, with light rains and the presence of low morning clouds in the Mediterranean and the Strait. On the other hand, there is an expected drop in temperatures in the Cantabrian region.

As the day progresses, the afternoon will offer sunny weather with intervals of high clouds and some evolution clouds in the mountains. Temperatures will be around 40 degrees in areas such as the Ebro, the Guadalquivir, and the southeast of the peninsula.

What starts as an increase in temperatures on Saturday will become a sustained trend that will last several days into the next week before reaching possible instability and decline.

Thus, on Sunday, temperatures will continue to rise in large areas of the southern half, central area and northeast of the peninsula. On Monday, this thermal rise will continue, reaching or exceeding 40 °C in areas of the southwest and northeast quadrant. Temperatures between 35-37 °C are also expected in the northern plateau and southern Galicia.

On Tuesday, temperatures will remain at values ??similar to those of the previous day, without significant changes. This indicates a temporary stabilization after previous ascents.

As of Wednesday, the AEMET forecast becomes more uncertain. It is probable that the atmosphere will become unstable with the appearance of showers and storms in areas of the interior of the peninsula, which could initiate a drop in temperatures in the following days.

During all these days, the nights will be especially warm, known as tropical, with temperatures above 20 °C and, in some points, even above 23-25 ??°C.
