June begins passed by water. According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), up to 13 autonomous communities are under warning this Thursday for heavy rains and storms coinciding with the premiere of both June and the meteorological summer, on a day with few changes in thermometers and more warmer than normal only in the northern third of the peninsula.
The unstable weather continues, which today will mainly affect the interior of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with a predominance of cloudy skies and abundant evolutionary cloudiness, with showers and storms that can be locally strong and with hail in much of the north, center and east peninsular, as well as in the Balearic Islands.
The rain will begin to worsen from the early hours of the morning in the northeast of the Peninsula and will intensify and spread throughout the day to other areas. In the southwest quadrant, there is a low probability of a shower or storm. Also at the eastern end of the Bay of Biscay there can be showers and storms.
These are strong storms and rains that can drop at least 15 to 30 liters per square meter and be accompanied by hail, depending on the area. This situation can occur in the provinces of Albacete, Alicante, AlmerÃa, Ãvila, the Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Burgos, León, Lleida, Madrid or Zaragoza.
Regarding temperatures, the Aemet foresees for this Thursday slight ascents in the Canary Islands, on the Cantabrian slope and in the south of the Atlantic slope, with decreases in the rest.
Instability will also continue in the coming days in most of the country, according to Aemet, a situation that is caused by the powerful and persistent anticyclone installed in northern Europe and the British Isles that forces low pressure to circulate for latitudes close to Spain.
Same tonic for next week. The week will begin with showers that, at least on Monday and Tuesday, will mainly affect the north and east of the Peninsula and also the Balearic Islands. Temperatures will begin to rise, according to the agency’s forecast.
The Aemet foresees a similar trend for the rest of the month of June: unstable weather in a large part of the Peninsula and widespread showers, which may make an “important positive contribution to the rainfall deficit”, although insufficient to alleviate the deficit of reservoirs and the important drought in Spain.
