The meteorological instability of recent weeks will give way to the anticyclone, which will gain ground in the coming days, but for a short time. Starting on Thursday, the arrival of an Atlantic storm is expected that will cover the skies and cause widespread rain, although more significant in the west and center of the peninsula, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Significant accumulations of snow will also be recorded in mountain areas, the agency continues. In addition, it will be very cold, because maximum temperatures will be below normal for the time of year.

It will rain starting Thursday, especially in the west and center of the Peninsula. They will also be abundant in Galicia and in the westernmost environment of the central system, that is, in the extreme south of Castilla y León and in the extreme north of Extremadura, the agency predicts.

This situation of instability will continue for the rest of the week and will affect large areas of the territory, although the agency believes that the southeastern area of ??the Peninsula could be left out of these rains.

It will be very cold most of the week, with temperatures lower than normal for March and, in the case of the minimum temperatures, they will range between 5 and 10 degrees lower than the average for these dates. “It will be cold in the middle of winter,” summarized the Aemet spokesperson, Rubén del Campo.

Looking ahead to the weekend, he anticipates that temperatures will drop again and this “unusual cold environment for the beginning of March” will continue, after leaving behind the “meteorological winter” and which is expected, however, to be between one of the three warmest in the historical series.
