Today we begin May, although the weather forecast indicates otherwise. During the first days of the month this weather more typical of March will prevail in many areas of the country.
Temperatures will be lower than normal, leading to night frosts and snowfall in high mountains in several areas of the Peninsula. Luckily, the weekend will be accompanied by sunny skies and more than 30 degrees in areas of the southern peninsula and the Canary Islands.
According to Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency: “During the next two days, Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2, we expect cold weather for the time of year, with daytime temperatures that will be between 5 and 10 degrees below “normal for the time in large areas of the interior of the peninsula.”
As for the rains, they will appear on Wednesday in large areas and from Thursday they will be limited to the northwest of the peninsula. Likewise, there will be night frosts in mountain areas, the Northern Plateau, central moors and points of the upper Ebro.
The spring month begins with intermittent rain and showers in large areas of the country, with less probability in the Balearic Islands and the southeastern coasts of the peninsula. The heaviest rains will occur in the Strait, the central interior of Andalusia, the Cantabrian Sea and northern Catalonia. In this last area there could even be locally heavy showers.
Finally, as confirmed by Aemet, “temperatures will rise across the board starting Friday. “They will be normal for those dates or even warmer than normal in the east and south of the peninsula during the weekend, when in some points they could exceed 30 or 32 degrees.”
