Heat and more heat for the start of the week. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts high temperatures for this Monday for the time of year in almost the entire country, although more notably in the Canary Islands and inland areas of the extreme north of the peninsula.
According to the agency’s forecast, the minimum temperatures will remain without major changes, except in the southeast of Galicia where they will decrease. The maximums will increase in the Canary Islands and in the eastern Cantabrian Sea, where they could reach notable levels. For Monday, the agency has activated the yellow warning in two communities: the Basque Country and Cantabria, due to temperatures of up to 35 degrees on the coast of Vizcaya and in the Cantabrian region of Liébana.
On the other hand, slight relief is expected in the Levant, Galicia and western Asturias. However, temperatures will once again exceed 30 degrees in around twenty provincial capitals: Alicante, Albacete, Cádiz, Granada, Jaén, Murcia, Madrid, Lleida and León.
For this Monday, slightly cloudy or clear skies and some intervals of high clouds are expected. There will only be cloudy skies in the extreme west of Galicia, with some weak and scattered rain, which could extend to other areas of the northwest half of the community at the end of the day. There will also be intervals of low morning clouds on coastlines of the northern half of the peninsular Mediterranean area, the Balearic Islands, under the Ebro, Melilla and the Strait.
Regarding the wind, according to the Aemet forecast, it will continue to blow east in Alborán and, with strong intervals, in the Strait area. Trade wind in the Canary Islands, southwest wind in Galicia, and a southern component rolling west in the Cantabrian Sea. In the rest, light wind in general.
The widespread heat episode could begin to subside in some areas as of Tuesday. According to the agency’s forecasts, a sharp drop in temperatures is expected tomorrow in the extreme north of the peninsula due to the entry of an Atlantic front.
However, in the rest of the country the heat will persist, with high temperatures for the time of year in much of the country, more notably in the Canary Islands. Although with uncertainty, stability could continue throughout the week, with thermometers above 30 degrees in much of the Peninsula.
