Given the extreme weather conditions and the severe drought affecting the region, the Government has activated the maximum alert for fire risk in 23 municipalities belonging to five regions: coastal and pre-coastal areas of Tarragona, areas of Tierras del Ebro and Empordà .
The Catalan authorities have decided to restrict access to the protected natural areas of Els Ports, Cardó-Boix and Cap de Creus due to the forecast of a high risk of fire that will last from today until the weekend.
The Climate Action department has reported that the danger will remain until Sunday, August 6, as the most significant wind episode this summer is expected with gusts of up to 80-90 km/h.
Faced with this situation, the Government has called for extreme caution, and Civil Protection has called a meeting of the technical committee of the fire emergency plan (Infocat) for today, with the aim of monitoring the situation in detail.
The municipalities where level 3 of Plan Alfa has been activated, which determines the risk of fire on a scale from 0 to 3, are distributed in the following counties: Alt Empordà (8), Baix Ebre (9), Montsià (2) , Ribera d’Ebre (1) and Terra Alta (3).
The decision to restrict access to the three natural parks is based on the need to mitigate the risk of fires caused by human activity and to protect vulnerable people in the event of a fire in the area.
