The word amnesty has topped the agitated Spanish trending topics over the last two months, the barbarity of no time. none empty Zero. Nothing. nothing
In the same period of time, the political fireside tables of radio and television – digression: if they want to know why there are so many gossipy debates about reality shows, politics, football or the pink press, they only have to ask a friendly audiovisual producer, who will explain with numbers that sitting people talking about anything is, by far, the cheapest way to fill an hour of programming – they devoted more than half of the broadcast to explaining to us the nature of the very serious subject “amnesty ”, which hangs over our twisted heads like a sword of Damocles that will cut us in two with the cleanness of a ninja’s movement.
On this question, the legal debate is not even of much interest – the negotiators know this, who spend much more time on the rhetoric of the preamble than on the substance of the matter, aware that amnesty is a golden tempura with little filling – since the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court has been immersed in magical realism for a long time, with particular intensity since the events of October and the unconstitutional application of Article 155, which they had to responsibly the TC chefs a year and a half later. They did well, because anything else would have been much worse, with Parliament dissolved and reconfigured after the elections that Mariano Rajoy called in Catalonia under Article 33. It’s a shame that that sense of culinary responsibility from the jurisprudential brazier table abandoned them when they had to resolve about the state of alarm.
The fact is that amnesty has become one of those boring topics that popes and their friends talk about in the living room, in an important tone, while your Lego City suffers a serious alien invasion on your bedroom carpet.
As in the high jump, yesterday angry Spain made the third attempt in Madrid to flood the streets with discontent. As on the two previous occasions, the attempt was null and its unfortunate fate meant that, beyond that, there was at that very hour a rally of solidarity with the inhabitants of Gaza that inspired a comforting human certainty: we are concerned more the death of innocents massacred thousands of kilometers away than the terms of the surrender of those who, being unable to turn a massive social humor into quality politics, already lost in October 2017.
In the meantime, the country focuses on substantial things, such as singing hierarchies by Alberto Pérez: “Nos ocupamos del mar, cada uno según es nuestro talante: yo lo que tiene importancia, ella todo lo importante”.
