In the midst of the conflict with Sumar, the platform led by Vice President Yolanda DÃaz, the founder of Podem, Pablo Iglesias, asked his supporters to “raise their sights” and called for the unity of the left, despite “the insults , the belittlements and the disdains”.
As part of the spring party celebrating the purple formation in Zaragoza, the former vice president said that he is aware that there are “very offended” and “very hurt” militants who demand that the party be respected, but despite this defend continue with outstretched hand. “There is something much more important than the dignity of all this militancy. Being able to continue to transform this country and try to stop a process of involution in Europe that has a lot to do with the dynamics of the war regime and with the growing weight of NATO in terms of political decisions on the continent”, he assured .
The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, also expressed her support for unity so that the transformational capacity of the left has “all possible strength”. “We know that Podemos is very different from Sumar, More Madrid, CompromÃs. But we believe that a coalition agreement between Podemos and Sumar is better, and we are ready to provide the capacity to be the engine of a collective project to conquer more rights”, he stated.
After a week marked by the publication of a promotional video in which Podemos indirectly accused DÃaz, IU or the PCE of “taking a profile” in matters such as the war in Ukraine or the intervention of NATO , Iglesias participated in the Zaragoza meeting in a talk about geopolitics and the neoliberal crisis and democracy, in which he denounced “the umpteenth attempt to kill Podemos” and bet to continue in the Spanish Government despite the discrepancies: “In politics , the importance of the things that are said has to do with the place from which they are said.
