a year ago, admitted the 13-year-old Coby Bering over for himself, that he lived a life in denial.
Then the name is not Coby, but Malou. The hair was long, and the clothes bought in pigeafdelingen.
– I used to think ‘I’m just a tomboy’, or ‘the here feeling gonna go away one day,’ tells Coby Bering for Extra Blade when we visit him and his mother in their home.
for months had mind the pressure on. And at the age of 12 it dawned on Coby, that he was not a tomboy.
He was a boy, and the feeling of being in the wrong body would not just go away by itself.
It dawned on me that I had to change me, so my body matched my brain, says Coby Bering.

Born as a girl
In the past five years, almost 500 children and young people were referred from the doctor with a presumption that they are transgender.
One of them is Coby Bering, who was born as a girl. As adolescence approached, so did a feeling of malaise took in him. It was not improved by the fact that he also has asperger.
– When I saw myself naked in the mirror, I wanted to throw up, says Coby.
It felt like getting something sharp hammered into the chest. I got tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat every time I thought of that I was born as a girl.

In 2016, the opened national board of Health in Denmark up to offer hormone therapy to transgender children and young people. The past five years, almost 500 children and young people were referred from the doctor with a presumption that they are transgender.
evaluation and treatment of transgender children and young people has long been legal in a number of other countries. For example, the Netherlands, where it has been possible since 1987.
In 2017 removed the Danish Health and medicines authority transgenderism from the list of mental diseases.
today, the Coby Bering a boy. He looks like a boy, talks like a boy and behave like a boy.
– My brain has always been a boy, he says.
Yet it is sometimes impossible to push the feeling of uneasiness away.
– My thoughts can get me to have it of hell to. And in a period of time they got to me even to want to commit suicide, he says.
– the Feelings are still there. But I have learned to suppress them and hide them away by going in drengetøj, have short hair and do everything to look like a boy. I do everything the opposite of what a girl would do.
Before Coby told his mother that he was a boy, he had often hurt in the body.
He had pain in the joints, had headaches, nausea and so on for a long period, says Cobys mother, Millaray Bering.
– Since you told that you are a boy, have there not been something, ” she says, and smiles at his son.
Coby is grateful that his mother is sympathetic to, that he is born with the wrong gender. – Actually, I am thinking that the other is unfortunate. For one’s parents ought to always be okay with it, he says. Photo: Aleksander Klug
In the spring and summer of 2018 began Millaray Bering to think that her son was perhaps born in the wrong body.
– I had for some time considered whether he mon was a lesbian. But I could look at Coby, that it thrust deeper, and that he was not comfortable in his body.
He got in several laps cut his hair shorter and shorter, and began to go in more boyish clothes. And then he was no longer open to do quite ordinary things like walking on the beach, tells Millaray Bering.
One day she sat down with Coby and had a chat.
I told him about transgenderism, that some people are born in the wrong body. And then he said that this was how it was for him, she says.
– It all suddenly made much more sense and all the pieces fell into place.

– A few days after, he came and laid the four boys forward tells Millaray Bering.
Together they chose the name Coby.
According to Millaray, it was clear that her son had already made many thoughts on the subject, before he told her that he was a boy.
I could hear on him that he had read a lot about it on the web, she says.
Millaray Bering cares sometimes about his son’s future.
– There is a big tendency that all must believe something, and that everyone has an opinion for everything, and that if you don’t understand something, then you are against it. I am afraid that he is going to meet a lot of negative attitudes and prejudices, she says.
– I will never be able to understand what Coby and other transgender goes through. And I will not either. I just need to accept that people choose it, they have to choose.

hormone therapy
Last year, Coby Bering associated with Sexologisk Clinic. There he went to five interviews, which aimed to investigate whether he was sure that he would change sex.
Coby has been approved by the clinic and is now in the process of officially changing the name. He has not yet begun to take hormones. But it is not because he is in doubt about his choice.
– I would like to be as high as possible, before I start on the hormones, says Coby.
– What are you thinking about, that some believe that children must wait until they are 18 to get hormones?
– I think, that the people do not realize that many of us will risk to be suicidal or at least very depressed, if we have to wait so long, he says.
– I think I would commit suicide, if I had to wait so long. I would just like to be a boy.
