It is worrying that such a small part of the plastic waste, as thousands of danes painstakingly sorts, are recycled and instead end up being transported around in the world, sounds from the Unity miljøordfører, Mai Villadsen.

She will, therefore, have introduced stricter rules for the plastics industry.

– It is deeply problematic and troubling, that we don’t have a better handle on where the plastic, as you and I will sort for recycling, goes. We believe that within a short number of years and like to at the international level, should require for the plastics industry, that when they make a product, so it must be recyclable.

– Thus, for example, the maximum may be made of one or two kinds of plastic. On the way, it would make it much, much easier to re-use it in Denmark. And thus one can avoid, that it be sent out of the country and dumped in skraldebunker, she says.

– But if you don’t grip it a little topsy-turvy an – you had a great eagerness, that had to be sorted, collected and recycled, instead of saying that we are going to have to have produced something plastic that can actually be reused first?

– I don’t know if you have taken the reverse way. But I think there is a point to say that it is all about, you must solve the problem from the start. And it’s about, you must ensure that the products can actually be recycled, says Mai Villadsen.

According to the Plastics industry, trade association of Danish manufacturers of plastic, one is already in full swing to produce plastic that can be recycled.

But you do not get something out of the better plastic, if you do not also change the way they sort of sound from Christina Bush, environmental policy manager in the Plastics industry.

– in Order to get increased recycling, there must be two things. Firstly, it must be sorted better than it is today, where each municipality can decide for themselves how they are sorted. So we have made some national guidelines for how you should sort.

– Furthermore, we would like that you invested in that have developed systems that can sort mademballage from the otherwise plastic. Mademballage is particularly valuable, and therefore it will be good to be able to sort it from. The technology, however, does not exist today, but you could from the state to invest in it.

– The second part of it is that we are trying to design the plastic better, so it can be reused. Among other things, by not using the different types of plastic in the same product. But we do not get more out of the better plastic, if we do not also sort the better.

According to the EU rules require that 50 percent of plastic is recycled in 2025, but the environmental protection Agency estimates that currently only 18 percent of the Danish plastic waste gets new life.
