It was only a matter of time before Triquell put his voice on an album. After the repercussion achieved by the launch of Jugular, the song in Catalan that played the most on the radio during the month of February, appears Entre Fluids (Halley records), the first work of this 23-year-old, named Cesc Fuentes. Its thirteen tracks cover all kinds of sounds, from the record to chill out moments, a reflection of the varied influences of this freak – as he defines himself – who does not stop when it comes to putting a stop to his ego or criticize his artistic origins, linked to the program Eufória.

Mix many sounds

Our references are super varied, we are able to enjoy a song by Manzanita but also a live session by FKJ or a more regular techno like Moderat, when we work we are inspired by what we have heard. Sometimes you find an atmosphere or an aura and when creating it we like to show versatility, because otherwise we don’t feel that we owe ourselves to only one genre. The reference would be Beck or David Bowie, who throughout their career have been looking for different sounds and textures, different producers. It’s all about finding compatible color palettes under a varnish.

Speak in the plural, who works for me?

With the guild, Triquell is a microculture of people both in the audiovisual section and the band itself and the producers, who are ourselves, as well as the networks and graphic design. We form a network where we trust each other with the projects we can have in parallel. We discuss and propose scripts and ideas, the band is present in most of the compositions, so it also has a voice and a vote, it is not the band that accompanies the ego, we are all equally involved.

He has the ego under control

It must be lowered. My ego bothers me but I need it to have a reference of where I come from and where I am going. To get on stage you have to really believe it.

In CBD Espardenyes you say “signing a ballot subjected me to a tyrant”

It’s a way of satirizing a reality that became hard for me and that I wanted to give a B-side to. Instead of throwing stones at the roof that introduced me, I try to laugh at myself for having considered myself a product, of having to be submitted to a repertoire that I didn’t choose and having to work with a production company that didn’t pay me much.

It refers to the Euphoria program

We were going in blind, we didn’t know if the project would work, but having become a cultural phenomenon… The work of any artist must be valued, and even more so when they make content in Catalan, and they are young people who are building his future and wants to invest in a project. Artistic work must be valued.

He recently explained that when he entered the program he was depressed

I noticed it because I cried little, got little emotional and meditated a lot, I had a lot of mental peace but with a very extreme apathy inside. Several things happened in my life, roommates, the relationship I was in, my cat died. Situations that made me enter an apathetic phase that over time I have seen was depression. From there I started a new cycle where I find myself at the opposite end, destabilized and unbalanced in an extreme way, trying to assimilate this tsunami.

Do you have to suffer to make music?

You have to have stories to tell, something that stirs you inside. You can tell who doesn’t have scars, who is doing it for the sake of it. I respect that there are content creators who pull more than banal topics and they are doing well. I like that there is a part of me in the songs, if I don’t feel like an impostor. I have to get my guts out, all of which I can’t physically do, and now that I have a megaphone I do my little revolution in my room. It’s a form of therapy that I don’t understand but it saves me.

What role is Eufòria playing in promoting Catalan music?

You have to be careful with the division between entertainment and culture, and treat music more as culture and not so much as entertainment, but I think Eufória did a good job of constructive criticism. This year they are paying the contestants, which is the right thing to do.

His generation prefers electronic music

We have a lot of access to digital production tools, and you can put the structure together before you put a band together.

What music did you grow up with?

I’ve been very freaky, I have too many references, I’m talking about Alice in Chains, Strokes, Tash Sultana, Tame Impala, Fleetwood Mac, I really like the Tango in the night vinyl. I guess if I soak in varied references, the album must come out varied.

He is a reference for young people

The action of responsibility is extreme, I have always tried to be responsible in how I use the megaphone. If you are a role model it is because you inspire someone and that doesn’t have to be scary, but at the same time I like to have a pedagogical perspective with my content. I am empowered by knowing that everything I say can generate ideas and can inspire. When I was a monitor or teacher I had the same aura, to be a model of behavior that inspires, is friendly and demonstrates one’s own values. I’m not an example of anything, but I want to be an inspiration for something.
