Esquerra has included the meteorologist Tomàs Molina on the list for the European elections and the protagonist has seemed strange. “This is strange, strange,” the TV3 weatherman assumed out loud as he headed to the lectern this morning to participate in his presentation to the press. “It’s something strange, I confess,” he said before the microphone. But he has admitted that he is “excited” and wanted to emphasize that he has left his “comfort zone” to contribute “the common sense of a classic weatherman”, in addition to new ideas new to ERC in the environmental field and, in specifically, around an axis: “It is essential that we adapt to climate change, it is an urgent need.”
Tomàs Molina has appeared together with the president of the Republicans, Oriol Junqueras, and Diana Riba, the number one of Ahora Repúblicas, the candidacy that ERC forms together with EH Bildu, the BNG and the Balearic federation Now More for the European Parliament elections on 9 of June The physicist and meteorologist will occupy the fourth place.
“I am new to politics and to a party. I come with some ideas and convictions, but I am going to a game with a long journey,” Molina assured, which is why he has proposed to “first listen and learn,” and then contribute with regard to adaptation to climate change. In this sense, Esquerra’s new signing has pointed out that Catalonia must assume that temperatures above 40 degrees are going to be more common. “A city at 40 degrees cannot be the same,” he pointed out, while referring to the drought, the great problem today in Catalonia. “We have the world record in [little] water consumption. But the reality is that there is no water and we have to reduce dependence on water,” he stressed.
In addition to being against any transfer and in favor of the creation of new desalination plants and expanding the Tordera one (it has been at full capacity for two years), Molina has considered that to address these two major issues “European planning is needed. “My agenda is very much about mitigating [the effects] of climate change,” he stressed.
But Molina has also deepened the idea of ??working with “common sense” in favor of environmentalism. This implies, in his opinion, providing “calm and willingness to dialogue”, as well as teamwork going beyond the sphere of ERC.
In the European elections of May 2019, Ahora Repúblicas won three seats, so it is not certain that Molina will be able to pick up the deputy record. However, Riba has been convinced that she will have Molina at her side in the European Parliament. The Republican recalled that both EH Bildu and the BNG are growing. The nationalist left is fighting for first position with the PNV in the Basque elections on April 21, and the Galician nationalists came second in this year’s regional elections.
Likewise, Riba has argued that with the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Parliament in 2020, the distribution of seats has changed and may be favorable to the interests of ERC.” We are thinking not only of getting three seats, but many more,” she concluded.
