After the Catalan elections held this Sunday in which Salvador Illa is the undisputed winner but governability is not guaranteed and the independence movement has long lost its absolute majority, the Parliament of Catalonia will receive its new deputies in the coming days. These are the elected representatives and some of the characteristics of the next Parliament.

Almost 52% of the Parliament’s deputies will be men. In total, 70 men and 65 women will make up the Catalan Chamber. In the last legislature in Catalonia there were more female deputies than male deputies for the first time in the history of the chamber, 70 women and 65 men, at the time when Pere Aragonès, president of the Generalitat, called elections. In the 2021 elections, the number of women and men chosen were the same as in the current elections.

The party that will contribute the most women to the Parliament is the PSC, with a total of 21 – the same number of men. On the part of Junts, 18 of its 35 deputies will be men while the PP will contribute 6 women of its 15 total seats. ERC and the CUP are the only parties that will be made up of more women than men.

8 of the 11 Vox deputies will be men and Comuns-Sumar and Aliança will contribute the same number of women as men.

The average age of the Parliament’s deputies will be 47 years, with the CUP and Vox being the parties with the lowest averages (45 years). On the other hand, the PSC will have an average of 48 years, Comuns-Sumar of 52 years and ERC of 47 years. The average of the PP is close to 50 years old while the two deputies of Aliança Catalana are an average of 53 years old.

Dividing the parliamentarians by age ranges, we find that the most common is between 46 and 55 years old, with 34%. On the other hand, none of the deputies will be over 70 years of age.

The youngest member of Parliament will be, at 23 years old, Júlia Calvet, former president of the student platform It’s Over! and that will enter the camera by Vox. The oldest deputy will be, in this case, Agustí Colomines, deputy of Junts por Barcelona, ??67 years old.
