The Councilor for Culture of Borriana and regional deputy for Vox, Jesús Albiol, defended this morning the decision of his department not to acquire, against the criteria of the municipal technicians, the DVDs of the Barbie movies and 20,000 species of bees for the library of this town. Albiol has argued that “not buying everything is not censorship” and has admitted that he does not always agree with the technicians’ criteria. In this case, he has acknowledged that he decided not to sign the proposal that had been made to him.
The councilor has indicated that material with sexual diversity content is purchased as required by law and that “nothing happens because two DVDs are not purchased.” Asked about the criteria when choosing titles, he limited himself to pointing out that “there are things that are bought and others that are not.”
Albiol has not stopped there and has indicated that Barbie may have “some relevance” – in fact, he has admitted that he has seen her – but regarding the film by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren whose title he did not remember, he has indicated that “ Its value is zero.” “In subsidies she has taken the same as what she has raised.”
20,000 species of bees has won three goyas and tells the transition process of a girl. However, the councilor concluded: “I’m not going to waste my time seeing it.”
Regarding the leak, Albiol has indicated that he will look for the official responsible for it and has assured that “the full weight of the law will fall on him.”
Albiol’s management as head of the Council of this Castellón City Council has not been without controversy. He already decided to remove a plaque in honor of the victims of Franco’s regime, alleging that it had false information and was one of the pioneer councils in eliminating subscriptions to magazines in Valencian because they were considered “Catalanist”.
Asked about the latest decision on the films, the PP ombudsman in Les Corts, Miguel Barrachina, did not want to get into the controversy, but he made it clear that his party “likes all books and all films.” Thus, respecting municipal autonomy, he has indicated that “the more books and films the better within the margins of the budget.” Barrachina has also pointed out that he does not agree with the possible reprisals against officials that Vox has threatened with.
