Smokers who so wish may smoke again on the terraces of bars and establishments in the Valencian Community. A measure that was put in place to combat the pandemic and that, for health reasons, the previous government of Ximo Puig decided to maintain. However, the incoming government of PP and Vox has decided to lift this ban, also responding to the requests of hoteliers.

In a statement, the Executive headed by Carlos Mazón has argued its decision in the commitment to “bring the regional regulations on public health that established restrictions, still in force, as a consequence of the health crisis caused by COVID-19 to the state regulations. 19”.

This was agreed during a meeting, held this Wednesday at the Palau de la Generalitat, between the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, the Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, and the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism , Nuria Montes.

The communiqué explains that it is a question of annulling those prevention measures that were put in place by the Ministry of Health, temporarily and until the end of the health crisis, and that were still in force “despite the fact that the Council of Ministers of July 4, 2023 agreed to end the crisis and the extraordinary measures adopted”.

Thus, the Consell ratifies the repeal, in the Valencian Community, of the restrictive and temporary measures that, on the other hand, had already been abolished in the rest of Spain, so that its regulations are standardized to that of the rest of the autonomous communities.

With this reversal of the restrictions, the same sources underline, “the Valencian Government also meets a demand from the hospitality sector, which will once again have full capacity to decide in its own establishments the possibility of smoking on the terraces.”
