With June just around the corner, the windows are starting to be filled with fluorescent colors and summer prints. It’s the season of satin, suspenders and, of course, swimwear. The main firms specializing in this industry have already presented the proposals that will reign on the beaches. And, despite the fact that it seems that everything has been seen when it comes to bikinis and swimwear, this seasonal sector surpasses itself summer after summer with the design of original patterns, innovative fabrics and accessories that are as important or more important than the swimwear itself same.

Beyond its style and DNA, the leading swimwear fashion firms in Spain agree to point to leopard print and glitter as the big trends of 2024. “We see a lot of lurex, as well as a clear trend towards the animal print, which comes with a push”, argues Alejandra Meler, co-founder of Robin Collection. The small firm originally from Barcelona is inspired by the Mediterranean and the new collection is dyed with a palette of bright and cheerful colors. Among the pieces, another of the season’s most obvious trends stands out. Low-cut bikinis and shorts combined with classic top pieces are this year’s shop window favorites, not only for comfort, but also to show that beach styles are also part of fashion. In the María Malo catalogue, culottes are already a classic. The Bali-based sustainable firm presents them with this on-trend bright spot. “The metallic ribbed fabric takes center stage in each of our models and halter tops, which cover the neckline to protect the most sensitive skin from the sun,” says designer María Malo.

In terms of innovation, swimwear fashion surprises in 2024 with the use of towel texture and ruching for bikinis and beach shorts, as well as a clear fixation with inlays of jewels and rhinestones in swimwear . Calzedonia has added to the latter forcefully and has one of the widest and most diverse catalogs on the Spanish market. Inspired by the most luxurious summer destinations, such as Saint-Tropez, Ibiza and Capri, the brand has launched a limited-edition capsule collection that is characterized by embedding applications such as rhinestones and pearls into bikinis and full-length swimwear. The firm explains that the most appropriate way to wash them is, like any other swimsuit, by hand and with a neutral soap to keep the color and fabrics in good condition, as well as avoiding the use of fabric softener so as not to break the fibers of the fabric

As for the colors that will color the beaches in the summer, there is no agreement between the firms. The Spanish Bohodot assures that bright and intense colors in pink, green and coral tones predominate, and adds that at the beginning of summer, when the skin is less tanned, clients opt for bougainvillea, mint, fuchsia and blue . For María Malo, however, black is still the undisputed king of bathroom fashion, followed by “white, along with blue, tile and pink”, while Calzedonia opts for neutral, timeless and elegant colors that coexist with tropical and geometric prints in bright colors.

The aforementioned brands make it clear that the triangular pattern is still the basic that never goes out of fashion, but, as far as one-piece swimsuits are concerned, this year gives way to asymmetry and unexpected cuts, with triquinis as the clear protagonists of the trend As for the lower parts, high or low, he opts for frills with the aim of emphasizing the waist and extreme feminine silhouette. A diverse, daring and timeless fashion that will soon move from shop windows to beaches.
