Normally, the opposition agrees to give an incoming government 100 days of courtesy before attacking the new ruler. This truce is rarely respected, as deadlines are shortened and criticism arises at a minimum, but in the case of the Provincial Council of Valencia, this grace period has been extended to 300 days. This is the time that the PSPV has given itself to try to reverse what happened on July 14 when Ens Uneix – a progressive formation born from a former socialist leader – chose to hand over the Presidency of the provincial corporation to the PP.
The socialists have always dreamed of a motion of censure that would give them power in the only major institution that after March 28 they had the option to govern. For this reason, to date, the PSPV spokesperson in the Provincial Council and mayor of Mislata, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, had opted for a condescending profile to avoid more enmities with the only deputy of Ens Uneix, Natàlia Enguix, who is the one who has the key of governance.
However, yesterday Bielsa slammed the door on this stage of 10 long months and anticipated a new way of acting from the majority opposition group. After months of waiting – they wanted to see what would happen with the renewal in the PSPV and the departure of Ximo Puig, with whom the leader of Ens Uneix, Jorge Rodríguez, ended up very much in conflict -, the PSPV has already assumed that the motion of censure is impossible: “Ens Uneix plays on both sides, but in reality they seem very comfortable with the PP.” Also to the popular ones, since not having the pressure of Vox (the ultra formation is not part of the provincial government) gives them a certain air and Vicent Mompó does not skimp on winking at his partners.
Some winks that the socialists monitor closely because they believe that some type of irregularities could have been committed in some aid. Yesterday, Bielsa accused the Provincial Council of acting as “a hand-me-down subsidy machine” to municipalities such as Ontinyent – chaired by Jorge Rodríguez – which, according to the mayor of Mislata, would have received 2.7 million euros for investments alone. in the current legislature.
In this sense, Bielsa went so far as to assure that there are town councils governed by the PP that see themselves “discriminated against” by the distribution of aid and that “when there are no cameras in front of them they complain about the inaction of the Provincial Council.” “We cannot return to the stage of Alfonso Rus’ clientelism,” said the socialist leader, throwing another blow at the partners of the provincial government.
Along these lines, the PSPV is clear that its political rival is no longer only the PP and Vox, but also Jorge Rodríguez’s party. Even more so when the mayor of Ontinyent is one of the promoters of a municipalist movement that, if it bears fruit, can become another rival for the progressive forces.
In order to look for fractures between the partners, the also vice-secretary of the PSPV explained that his party will demand that the Valencia Provincial Council present amendments to the Concordia law that PP and Vox have approved in the Corts Valencianes for consideration. “We know that the PP is not comfortable with this law, which is an imposition of its partner and therefore a toll that it has to pay and Ens Uneix, which manages democratic memory in this institution, so they will be in charge of presenting amendments ”Bielsa slipped. The socialists want to start making noise in the Provincial Council.
